From Proto-Brythonic *boðar, from Proto-Celtic *bodaros, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰodʰHrós. Cognate with Cornish bodhar, Breton bouzar, Irish bodhar, Scottish Gaelic bodhar, Manx bouyr.
