Dutch edit

Etymology edit

Modified from bijou. The digraph <ij> is fairly rare among European languages, but it is common in Dutch, and in older Dutch spellings it is generally interchangeable with <y>. Thus, some people may think <ij> is "too Dutch" for a foreign word, and that it therefore must be a misspelling for <y>. Compare Dyon.

Noun edit

byou m (plural byoux or byous, diminutive byoutje n)

  1. (hyperforeign) Misspelling of bijou.
