Etymology edit

Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *cautelinus (with metathesis), from Latin cautēla, or alternatively from Latin continue or continuō (continuously), forms of continuus (compare similar phonetic change in către < contra); the normal result in Romanian would have been *cătinu, to which the suffix -el may have been added, in analogy with încetinel. Adverb edit

cătinel

  1. slowly, gently, easy
    Synonyms: încet, lin, domol, tiptil
