calyx eye (plural calyx eyes)
- A kind of oval-shaped needle eye with a slot for inserting the thread.
1911, Leonard Arthur Bidwell, A Handbook of Intestinal Surgery, page 8:I do not advise those with calyx eyes, but I select needles with good oval eyes. I should like to condemn those made with flat, expanded ends.
