cruța

RomanianEdit

EtymologyEdit

Uncertain. Probably a substratum word. Other theories include a Vulgar Latin root *curtiāre ("cut"), from Latin curtāre, *cruciāre ("cross"), from crux or *curatiāre; alternatively, there may be a connection with Slavic krotiti (compare ocroti). Compare also the likely related Albanian kursej (save, save up, spare, put aside).

VerbEdit

a cruța (third-person singular present cruță, past participle cruțat1st conj.

  1. to spare, pardon, forgive
