From an Old Northern French [Term?] variant of Old French cuisine, from Late Latin cocīna, from earlier coquīna, ultimately from Latin coquō (“cook”, verb), from Proto-Indo-European *pekʷ- (“to cook, become ripe”). Compare French cuisine.
