Azerbaijani edit

Etymology edit

Izafet II compound of diş (tooth) +‎ məcun. The word məcun originally meant "delicious". It developed later the sense "delicious jam or spread" under the influence from the similar sense of semantic loan from Russian паста (pasta). The sense "toothpaste" was derived as a semantic parallel semantic loan from or a calque of Russian зубная паста (zubnaja pasta). Alternatively, borrowed from Turkish diş macunu to replace the Russian calque diş pastası.
