Etymology edit

Of disputed origin. Either from Proto-Ugric *ättɜ- (to harden, chill (steel)) or a derivative of a variant of the verb önt.[1][2]

  1. (transitive) to train somebody (actively help someone else train)
  2. (intransitive) to train (practice, do something only with the purpose of getting better in something later, get fitter)
