From Proto-West Germanic *erþubibungu. Cognate with Old Frisian erthbivinge, Old Saxon erđbiƀunga, Old Dutch *erthbivunga, Old High German erdbibunga. Equivalent to eorþe (earth) +‎ beofung (shaking).
