Etymology

1650s, from French épistolaire, from Latin epistolaris, from Latin epistola (letter) (English epistle),[1] from Ancient Greek ἐπιστολή (epistolē) from ἐπιστέλλω (epistellō, I send a message) from ἐπί (epi, upon) + στέλλω (stellō, I prepare, send).
