From Latin euphorbium, from Ancient Greek εὐφόρβιον (euphórbion), from Εὔφορβος (Eúphorbos, “Euphorbus, physician to the Mauretanian king Juba II”) + -ιον (-ion, “related to”).
The name is from εὔφορβος (eúphorbos, “well-fed”), from εὖ (eû, “well”) + φορβή (phorbḗ, “food, fodder”).
