From Latin faciēs. Whatever the reason for the /t͡tʃ/ in this word (cf. the regular azzaru < aciārium), it is in fact universal across southern Italy.[1] That, along with the apparent absence—at least in the 1920's—of a Sicilian variant with final /-a/ (again per the AIS), makes a borrowing from Italian faccia unlikely.
