From *sbʰlo:-t-a, a prefixed form of Proto-Indo-European *bʰel (“to thrive, bloom”) (*sp-/*sbʰ- > Albanian /f/), cognate to Ancient Greek φύλλον (phullon, “'id'”) and Latin folia. Alternatively from Vulgar Latin *foliāta.
