front porch (plural front porches)

  1. A porch at the front of a building.
  2. (television) A brief period inserted between the end of each transmitted line of picture and the leading edge of the next line sync pulse, intended to allow voltage levels to stabilise in older televisions, preventing interference between picture lines.
