fruth

Albanian

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₁roudhós, from the root *h₁rewdʰ- 'red', probably from a f- prefixed form from *mbruth (similarly to fshij/pshij/mbëshej). Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *bhrūg- 'fruit'. Compare Latin frūx (fruit), frugi (fruitful), Gothic brukjan, Old High German bruhhan, Old English brucan (need, lack).
