Usage notes edit

Dutch makes a distinction between geboortedag (“birthdate or date of birth”, i.e. the date and year someone was born) and verjaardag (“birthday”, i.e. the anniversary of the day on which someone is born). However, for the birth anniversary of a deceased person geboortedag is preferred to verjaardag.
