From guttifer +‎ -ous, from New Latin guttifera (gum-bearing plant), from Latin gutta (drop).

  1. (botany) Yielding gum or resinous substances.
  2. (botany) Relating to a natural grouping of trees and shrubs (family Guttiferae, now Clusiaceae) that abound in resinous sap.
