hemicyonine (plural hemicyonines)

A member of the extinct subfamily Hemicyoninae.

  The dog-bears (hemicyonines) looked like bulky, short-tailed dogs, but were in fact related to bears, and if this is not confusing enough, there was also a group of bear-dogs (amphycyonids).
