Inherited from Ottoman Turkish حصه (ḥiṣṣe, “a share, allotted portion”),[1][2] from Arabic حِصَّة (ḥiṣṣa, “share”), from حَصَّ (ḥaṣṣa, “to fall to someone (as their lot or portion)”).[3]
