Etymology edit

From Old Norse hylla, from Proto-Germanic *hulþijaną, from Proto-Germanic *hulþaz (whence Icelandic hollur (loyal)). The sense “pay homage to” is due to influence from Danish hylde, Middle Low German hulden.
