kallioperä
Finnish edit
Etymology edit
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
kallioperä
- (geology) bedrock (lithified rock that lies under a loose softer material called regolith at the surface of the Earth or other terrestrial planets)
Usage notes edit
- Many Finnish speakers do not make a difference between the terms kallioperä and peruskallio (“basement”), probably because Finland lies on the Baltic Shield and the bedrock largely consists of basement.
