Etymology edit

In (sense 1), from knäppa (button) +‎ till (up). In (sense 2), from knäppa (snap) +‎ till (expresses suddenness and short duration) (compare English cold snap).

Verb edit

knäppa till (present knäpper till, preterite knäppte till, supine knäppt till, imperative knäpp till)

  1. to button up
    Det var kallt ute, så hon knäppte till rocken
    It was cold outside, so she buttoned up her coat
  2. to suddenly get cold (of the weather)
    Det knäppte till och blev 25 minus
    It (the weather) "snapped" and turned 25 below

Usage notes edit

Other senses are possible as well from the different senses of knäppa + till. As an example, "knäppa till" could also mean to flick something, with the "till" emphasizing suddenness and short duration.
