Etymology edit
In (sense 1), from knäppa (“button”) + till (“up”). In (sense 2), from knäppa (“snap”) + till (expresses suddenness and short duration) (compare English cold snap).

Usage notes edit
Other senses are possible as well from the different senses of knäppa + till. As an example, "knäppa till" could also mean to flick something, with the "till" emphasizing suddenness and short duration.
