    • 1838, The Madras Journal of Literature and Science, volume 7, page 69:
      Of the genus Loris are two species, the Kukang or Lemur tardigradus, and the Nycticebus Javanicus, the latter of which however I have not seen.
    • 1895, The Black Cat, volume 1, page 37:
      [] leaving the poor fellow to make his way unarmed down to the sea, where he ran upon a pair of half-starved kukangs, a vicious species of Malay chimpanzee, in fleeing from which he fell over the cliff and was dashed to pieces.
