Etymology edit

Borrowed from Latin conventus (meeting, assembly). The plurale tantum kuvíse has been influenced by the alternation vís ~ vénd, or alternatively continuing a Vulgar Latin *conventiae.[1] Cognate with Aromanian cuvendã, Romanian cuvânt (word) and Greek κουβέντα (kouvénta, conversation; word, phrase).
