From Proto-Semitic *layʾ-at- ~ laʾay-at- (“cow”). Equivalent to 𒄞 (lûm, “bull”) + -𒌈 (-tum, feminine suffix). Cognate with Arabic لَآة (laʔāh, “wild cow”) and Biblical Hebrew לֵאָה (leʔɔ́).
