landed immigrant (plural landed immigrants)

  1. (Canada, dated) A person who is not a citizen of Canada but who has been legally admitted to Canada as a permanent resident.

Usage notes edit

  • The Government of Canada has replaced landed immigrant with the designation permanent resident; however, the term landed immigrant continues to be very widely used in Canada.
