Etymology edit
Possibly a blend of German Lawine / Yiddish לאַווינע (lavine) + Italian valanga. The German term has been borrowed by many of Esperanto's source languages; compare Polish lawina, Russian лавина (lavina), Italian lavina, English lauwine.
