left wing (plural left wings)

  1. The wing on the left side of some body, most commonly one half of a pair:
    • 1928, British Bee Journal:
      The beekeeper said, "Tell me, did your wife say she noticed a patch or blotch of purple under the bee's left wing?"
    1. (politics) The more left-wing faction of a group, party, or group of parties.
    2. (sports) The left-hand side of a sports field.
    3. (ice hockey) The offensive player who plays to the center's left.
