Etymology edit

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *leiˀstei, ultimately possibly from Proto-Indo-European *léyd-ti ~ lid-énti, an athematic root present from the root *leyd- (to let, allow).[1] Cognate with Latvian laist (let, allow).
