marzapane
Italian edit
Etymology edit
The origin is uncertain, but now thought to be derived from Martaban, in Burmese မုတ္ထမ (muthta.ma.), a Burmese port known for its spice exports, through Arabic مَرْطَبَان (marṭabān, “spice box”), and with influence of pane (“bread”).
