Etymology edit

From Proto-Brythonic *melw- (soft), from Proto-Celtic *meldo- (pleasant, mild), *mlido (soft), from Proto-Indo-European *ml̥dus (soft, weak).

Compare Breton melw (snot)); akin to Breton melc’hwed, Welsh malwod. Also see Gaulish *multon- (sheep), which could be related.
