From Proto-Albanian *mīrā- from older Proto-Albanian *meirā[2] Proto-Indo-European *meih₁-ro (peace)[3] (compare Proto-Balto-Slavic *meiˀrás (peace), Proto-Slavic *milъ (nice, gentle, mild)), enlargement of *meih₁- (soft, mild) (compare Latin mītis (soft (not chewy))).
