Etymology edit

From Old Norse napr (cold, chilly; of a piercing cold wind) whence the Old Norse nepja (chilliness, bitter cold) and Icelandic nepja (bitter cold, chill). Compare the Old Norse apr (cold, sharp) and nöp (chilliness).
