Etymology

edit

Probably denominal from nixa (leak water, leakage), from Arabic نَشَع (našaʕ). This would explain the absence of the pharyngeal in the root, since word-final became weak early on. Alternatively intensive of the verb نَشَعَ (našaʕa).
