Albanian edit

Etymology edit

Unclear.[1] Possibly from an older *noshë, continuing Proto-Indo-European *néh₂s, *nh₂es (nose, nostrils), with the affricatization of the original final fricative (cf. çaj ~ shaj etc.). Semantically close to Old English nose, nosu (ness, promontory), Norwegian nōs (muzzle, snout).

Noun edit

noçë f (plural noça, definite noça, definite plural noçat)

  1. (anatomy) ankle
  2. snout, trunk (latter for elephants)
