     Ce qui entraînait un certain embarras dans la justification de la noblesse de robe qui n’était pas d’origine naturelle, comme la noblesse d’épée. C’est l’imitation de la noblesse d’épée, seule véritable noblesse, qui était invoquée comme justification de la noblesse de robe.

     This brought about a certain obstacle in the justification of the nobility of office that wasn't of natural origin, like the military nobility. It is the imitation of the military nobility, the one true nobility, that was invoked as a justification of the nobility of office.
