Ultimately from Latin orthodoxus, from Ancient Greek ὀρθόδοξος (orthódoxos). Compare French orthodoxe, Italian ortodosso, English and German orthodox, Yiddish אָרטאָדאָקסיש (ortodoksish), Polish ortodoksyjny, Russian ортодокса́льный (ortodoksálʹnyj).
