pădure
Romanian edit
Etymology edit
Inherited from Late Latin padūlem (“swamp”), from Latin palūdem via metathesis. Cognate with Albanian pyll (“forest”), which also shares the change in meaning. Compare also Italian padule. Doublet of paludă (“marsh”), an apparent borrowing from Latin.
