From Ancient Greek παρακμή (parakmḗ), corresponding to para- + acme.

  1. A point beyond the highest or greatest.
  2. (medicine) A point after the crisis of a fever is past.
  3. (biology) The decadence of an evolutionary series of organisms after reaching its highest point of development.
