1. (botany) The tissue of young cells that produces the phellem.

   Synonym: cork cambium

     We distinguish between primary bark (originating from primary meristems - protoderm, ground meristem and procambium) and secondary bark (originating from secondary meristems - the vascular cambium, the phellogen, and dilatation meristem).
