philadelphus (plural philadelphuses)

  1. (botany) Any of the genus Philadelphus of shrubs.
    Synonym: mock orange
    • 1952, Charles Cuthbert Eley, Twentieth century gardening, page 167:
No garden can afford to neglect the philadelphuses, because not only are the flowers full of refinement and beauty, but often most fragrant and arrive in June and July when the chief flowering period of shrubs is over.
