pipsissewa

EnglishEdit

EtymologyEdit

Perhaps from Cree pipsissewa (breaks (stones in the body) into small pieces) (compare ᐲᐃᐧᓭᐧᐤ (pîwiswêw, she/he cuts pieces off someone)), or perhaps from Abenaki kpipskwáhsawe (flower of the woods).

NounEdit

pipsissewa (plural pipsissewas)

  1. Any of several evergreen plants, of the genus Chimaphila, that have pale pink leaves; the prince's pine; in particular, the umbellate wintergreen, Chimaphila umbellata.
