Etymology edit

From Middle Low German plunderen. Probably from the noun Plunder (stuff). Possibly originally in the sense "to remove household utensils by coercion". Further origin beyond German is unclear.

Cognate of German plündern, English plunder, Dutch plunderen, Danish plyndre.
