From earlier prevoire, from Vulgar Latin *previterum, *prebiterum, from Latin presbyterum, accusative of presbyter (cf. the synonym prestre derived from the nominative form). Compare Occitan preveire.
Noun edit
provoire oblique singular, m (oblique plural provoires, nominative singular provoires, nominative plural provoire)
Usage notes edit
According to some sources, prestre and provoire were once inflected forms of the same word. Even so, the two rarely appear in texts together.
