From Vulgar Latin root *pūlicō, from Latin pūlex, pūlicem. Compare Romanian purica, puric, Logudorese puligare, Sardinian pulicare. Superficially, and semantically, resembles Vulgar Latin *pilūc(i)cāre and its reflexes.
