Etymology edit
Cognate with Turkish kılağı. Formally goes back to Common Turkic *kïlagu (compare other reflexes of *-agu), which is a reconstructable form for the following cognate set: Bashkir ҡылау (qılaw), Kumyk къылав (qılaw), Kazakh қылау (qylau) and dialectal Tatar кылау (qılaw), Southern Altai кылаҥыр (kïlaŋïr, “light”), etc.
