qada
Azerbaijani edit
Etymology edit
Possibly from Azerbaijani *kad-, whence also Azerbaijani qayğı; however, the intervocalic /d/ instead of expected /j/ is not quite clear.
Alternatively, from Common Turkic *kada- (“to thrust into, to plunge into”).
Compare dialectal Turkish gada.
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
qada (definite accusative qadanı, plural qadalar)
- (archaic) illness, sickness
- adversity, misfortune, trouble
- qadan alım ― darling, my dear (literally, “may I take your misfortune”)
