reactor scram (plural reactor scrams)

  1. An automatic safety feature of nuclear reactors where the control rods are automatically dropped into the reactor core when any of several emergency conditions are reached.
  2. The process of dropping the control rods into the reactor core.
  3. The procedure technicians follow in the hours following the instantaneous event of the rods dropping.
