From Proto-Finnic *rëëska, borrowed from Proto-Balto-Slavic *prēˀskas (compare Lithuanian prėskas (“unflavoured, tasteless, fresh, unleavened”)).

- A traditional thin unleavened bread made from barley or oat, sometimes with potato as additional ingredient. There are many regional varieties of rieska, some of them similar to the Norwegian lefse or the Swedish tunnbröd.
