risq
Maltese edit
Alternative forms edit
- riżq (superseded)
Etymology edit
From Arabic رِزْق (rizq, “livelihood, sustenance; divine provision”), from Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭰𐭩𐭪 (rōzīg). The new standard spelling with -s- is due to the fact that the noun has no root in Maltese, in which case words are now spelt phonetically rather than etymologically.
